Most people who have spent any time at all in northern latitudes understand the term "snow day" - that glorious opportunity to spend a decadent day away from school and work baking cookies, building snowmen, taking catnaps. And a "rain day" spent in the comfortable confines of a villa Puerto Vallarta can be just as gratifying.
There is absolutely no reason you can't go into town and do all the things you penciled in to your calendar before the drops started to fall. - Find a good book, a warm throw and a cozy seat near a window or on a balcony (you might want to rustle up another cafe) and enjoy the comfortable set-up.
- Invite your heart's desire to join you in a special private location in the villa where you can engage in a serious discussion of meteorological phenomena. Or not.
- Take a shatter-proof container of your favorite libation to the patio and slip into the hot tub, then let the rain fall where it may. If it's a warm rain, jump into the pool and get a feel for swimming in the rain.
So now you've managed to pass two or three completely enjoyable hours at your villa Puerto Vallarta; however, it's still raining and you can envision the whole day looming large in front of you. This is not a problem - just call a cab and head into town. There's plenty to do, even in the rain.
You might want to start with lunch; inclement weather is more approachable on a full stomach. Cafe Roma at Encino 280 in el Centro and Cafe de Olla at Basilio Badillo 168 in the Zona Romantica are two good options. Of course, you can always enjoy tapas on the beach, but they're likely to get a bit water-logged.
Once fed, make the most of the afternoon. Walk through the art galleries in el Centro. Spend some time enjoying the rain on the beach. Head for the Rio Cuale market and shop for an umbrella. After all, a rainy day in Puerto Vallarta shouldn't mean a day without fun.
